p2p for freeJust how safe is LimeWire? How does it compare to the other top P2P free file sharing clients?

Security is the key to not getting sued for everything you have so the rich can get richer.
How safe? I'm not sure but I know one thing, I would never use it without turning up Peerguardian first. I think your odds of being sued are fairly slim. It depends on exactly what you do and share.

As for how it compares, I think it works fairly well. When I use it, that is. It gets decent speeds, and has a fair amount of files.

**OK, you're talking about being as safe as you can be from lawsuits while still being able to download what you want. You're talking about newsgroups then. I use them almost exclusively, myself. All the newest files, no ratio worries etc, safe, and you're always able to download at max speed. I'll add a link below with more details. You normally have to subscribe to a newsgroup service, but check with your ISP first, they may just offer you the service for free.

Also, if you want to use traditional p2p programs you could always set them up to p2p for freerun with Tor.**
being in canada is safer :D
From my experience, not very.
The files are the same as any other source.
However, the RIAA and the FedGov watch what people send and receive via LimeWire. Which means that one day you might get a letter from the RIAA demanding money for all the music you've downloaded.

Again from my experience, you would be better served to use a program like "Bit Torrent" and a helper program called "Peer Guardian".
Peer Guardian is the important one. It works with Bit Torrent to help protect your computer from prying eyes. Peer Guardian maintains a list of RIAA and FedGov computers (updated frequently). It then blocks all requests from these computers to view what files you have on your computer.

Download and install Peer Guardian first. You should have it running all the time.
Then download a Bit Torrent program like Bit Tornado.
But this program is different to use than LimeWire. To use Bit Tornado (or any op2p for freether Bit Torrent-compatible program), you simply go to Yahoo! and search for what you are looking for - but you add the word "torrent" to the end. You then follow a listed link and download the "torrent file". This "torrent file" is an index to tell Bit Tornado where to get the file you were originally searching for. Bit Tornado will then begin downloading the selected file from as many sources as it can.

For example, let's pretend you wanted to download a copy of the Bob Seger song "Turn The Page" that you have, but scratched it and need a fresh copy. You would start Peer Guardian, then open your browser to Yahoo!. You would search for: "Bob Seger Turn The Page torrent".
Within the results would be links to "torrent" files. Follow the links and Bit Tornado will download the file to your computer.
Get limewire PRO. Its way safer then the reg limewire.
