It's a gift for my son's birthday so we would like opinions about our best options.
Thank you in advance for sharing your knowledge!
If you download from MSN Music, it is legal because you pay for everything you download and you get a license with each download. Just go to MSN.com and look for the music link on the left hand side of the screen. You end up paying about 99 cents for each song or you can download a whole album for whatever price they specify.

Jeez, watch out- all these P2P suggestions are totally illegal, in the US, at least. I buy mp3's from the Russian site allofmp3.cdownload legal music unlimitedom- which is controversial at the moment, but not actually illegal (yet). That site is actually the only thing that prevents the WTO from accepting Russia into its evil club, can you believe it? So now they're getting heat from all over the place, including their own government. So sad, but its a great site for cheap, quality tunes. The average CD-quality (192 kbps) album there will set you back about two dollars. And NO DRM, unlike the lame iTunes Music store and their ilk.
