I have OpenOffice now but need Windows to convert my resume. I have been applying to jobs and no one can open my resume using OpenOffice. I have looked on freedownloads.com and Cnet.com but can't seem to find the right download. I don't want a free "trial" but just a compatible download . I really don't need Windows Office - just regular windows that I am used to HOWEVER if there is a free download for office I would like it. BTW - I really need help as soon as possible because I need send my resume to several positions. Thank you for your help.
Microsoft offers a free online veopenoffice download cnetrsion of Microsoft Office. You don't have to pay for Office unless you want additional features. You don't download or install anything - it runs in your web browser. The free version is from Microsoft and it is here:
there is no such thing as free fro word or word perfect. if you find one, it is illegal and wont work for editing purposes, at least not for long. you should be able to save the openoffice file as a word compatible doc. however, if not, this is just anothrer reason to not use it...
Just open your resume in OpenOffice and then go to:
Menu \ File \ Save As...
and in the "Saopenoffice download cnetve as type:" drop-box choose Microsoft Word (or any other item) and hit Enter.
Or you can use one of many document converters, for example.
The issue that your default file format on OpenOffice is ODT. You need to change that to .Doc
Select "Save As" and there is a drop-down list at the bottom. Select .Doc (97-2003) and you should be fine. After that, go to your Options and permanantly change the default save setting from ODT to DOC
the newer version of openoffice should open .docx
same with 07 should open .odt format
Just use Google Docs.
